Tie Break

In ‘Tie Break’, choreographer Constantin Trommlitz explores how dance battles serve as a metaphor for personal struggles. Every day, we grapple with fears, self-imposed expectations and acceptance. Working with dancers of various styles, he explores how the body gives visible expression to emotions – from the tension before the battle to the exhaustion afterwards. How can these challenges be overcome? When does the battle become a moment of liberation, in which one is both true to oneself and part of the crew?
In an urban dance battle, dancers compete against one another, with the audience or a panel of judges deciding the winner. Battles are unpredictable: the music, the floor, the space and the opponents are not fixed. The challenge lies in reacting spontaneously and giving it your all when music, body and skills become one. But it’s about more than just winning – it’s about self-image, potential, self-doubt, originality and coping with pressure and defeat.

“‘Tie Break’ draws on the principle of a dance battle to create a variety of images depicting internal and external struggles. The dancers Victor Karwath, Marino Ariza and Alanna Reimpell Bravo face off in constantly shifting 2:1 constellations – at times playfully, at times provocatively challenging, and sometimes even menacingly.”tanznetz.de
