Dance workshop for children (10–13 years)

The participating children learn movement sequences through simple exercises, thereby expanding their dance vocabulary. Musicality, coordination, flexibility, spatial awareness and concentration are taught in a playful way. Improvisation opens up a path to their own creativity and dance expression. The workshops give the children the chance to get to know their bodies and their abilities better, thereby building up self-confidence and self-esteem.

Alessandra Defazio from Italy graduated in dance theatre from the Folkwang University in Essen in 2006. She works as a dancer, choreographer and teacher mainly in Germany, Italy, Spain and Switzerland. She has worked with renowned artists and dance companies such as Romeo Castellucci, Cindy Van Acker, Susanne Linke, Leandro Kees, Tanzcompagnie Rubato, Anna Konjetzky, Zufit Simon, Micha Purucker, Davide Camplani, Sebastian Hirn, Willy Dorner, Allora & Calzadilla, Canan Erek, Kuo-Chu Wu, Orlando Rodriguez and Stella Geppert.

Since 2016 she has been working with Sasha Waltz & Guests and the children’s dance company of Sasha Waltz & Guests. Alessandra has been part of the educational team of PURPLE – International Dance Festival for Young Audiences in Berlin since the beginning.
